Who am I?

I am a very curious person that loves all kind of intellectual pursuits and I want to have a positive impact to society. My main goal is to leave this place a better place than it was when I arrived.

Umberto Michelucci studied Theoretical Physics in Florence, Italy. His research concentrated on theoretical simulations of entrapment of atoms with lasers and on high-temperature superconductors where he was lucky enough to publish 7 papers on the subject in a few years. He has a PhD in Computer Science and Machine Learning from the University of Portsmouth (UK) where he developed multi-task learning neural networks for Optics and sensor science. He really loves teaching and he also got a postgraduate certificate in higher education.

He has 20 years of experience in industry and in applied and fundamental research. He publishes regularly on peer reviewed journals, and he is the author of five books: three on deep learning, one graduate textbook on machine learning and one textbook on statistics. He is the founder of the company TOELT LLC, that focuses on advanced research in AI in large European funded projects in various topics as medicine, smart agriculture, sensor science and more.

He is interested in many research topics, technical and non. He is also a senior lecturer at the lucerne university of applied sciences and arts (HSLU) and the head of the further education topic of machine learning.

He is also a Google Developer Expert (the only one in Switzerland), recognized for his work in Machine Learning and with the TensorFlow library from Google.
